Safari Day 4

Most of today was to be devoted to the drive back to Johannesburg. However, we did have more opportunity to see Kruger wildlife. Many different birds can be found in Kruger National Park. Here is an assortment of some we saw.

It was time for a group photo.

We left the park through Orpen Gate where we stopped for a break. Katie was feeling good.

One of the guides pointed out the tree frog, an expert in camouflage. Above were a number of bats hanging around waiting for dusk.

We made a number of stops along the way back. Some had dramatic scenery. Others were an opportunity to do some shopping. We had never before seen such a promotion of macadamia nuts. When we stopped for lunch, we weren't yet out of the van before multiple vendors were upon us.

The final challenge for our guide was finding the Protea Hotel at The Lakes. www.proteahotels.com/thelakes. The sign posting from one direction was good, but from the direction we approached was very bad.

This evening we went our various ways for dinner. Sharon, Katie and I were driven to a nearby shopping mall where we had dinner and then browsed the music and book stores. This was quite a contrast from the days at Kruger, but different adventures awaited us.
