Stellenbosch

Wine Tasting Tour Day

Stellenbosch is in the heart of wine country, to the east and north of Cape Town. The remainder of the family and friend activity would be here. The first Stellenbosch event was the wine tasting tour. The tour bus was collecting people at various points in Cape Town and bringing them to the Aan de leivoor Bed & Breakfast (http://www.aan-de-leivoor.com/) where several of us would be staying. Intending to keep the rental car for the rest of the week, I drove to Stellenbosch, arriving at the B&B about a half hour before the bus was scheduled to arrive. Jennie and Adele were a welcome site.

After unloading the bus of the baggage that came from Cape Town, we were on the road. First stop was Lanzerac Winery (http://www.lanzerac.co.za/).

Our guide introduced each stop and then turned us over to the company representative.

I've never really developed a taste for wine (I know there's red and white.), and so the descriptions of the body and scents and tastes and hints of this or that were somewhat lost on me. However, some people take this very seriously and I was soon reminded of the recent movie Sideways. (http://movies.about.com/od/sideways/)

At one stop we took the opportunity for a group shot.

Then we were give quite a show by the resident peacocks.

We think lunch was great, but then after a morning of wine tasting who knows?

The last stop of the day specialized in schnopps, a high alcohol content drink. They wisely told us that they didn't have enough staff to host us inside, so we made the best of it on the lawn, taking in the great views and having fun. Here's Jill clearing three bodies.

After trying several flavors of schnopps, we don't really remember what happened the rest of the day, but something didn't look quite right when we got back in the bus. : )
