Esther Green Prentke
1907 – 2002

Esther Green Prentke died peacefully on Friday, 27 September 2002, in her 96th year surrounded by friends and family at her home in Lyndhurst, Ohio.  She was the wife of Edwin M. Prentke who survives.

Mrs. Prentke was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to William and Elizabeth Barrish Green.  In her early years she moved to Cleveland, Ohio with her family and married Edwin Prentke in 1933.

Esther worked in various capacities during her life.  She had taken training for secretarial work in high school and in 1924 won the first amateur class typewriting contest held at the State Normal College in Bowling Green, Ohio. 

For many years, Esther and her husband owned and operated Prentke’s Inc., a retail photographic shop on Euclid Avenue at 101st Street.  In the mid sixties, Mrs. Prentke worked in the hand research clinic at Highland View Hospital, the Cuyahoga County rehabilitation facility then located in Warrensville Heights, Ohio.

Charitable volunteer work done by Esther benefited the mission of Jewish Family Services.  She also was an accomplished pianist, having declined a full college scholarship in music to help with family responsibilities.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Prentke is survived by a niece, Edith Green Orenstein and her husband David, a nephew, Mark Green and his wife Joan, all of Potomac, MD, five grand-nieces, and one grand-nephew.  Harold Green, her brother, and sister, Beatrice Green Freeman, preceded her in death.
